We were giving fish a helping hand up the Sid, yesterday, Tuesday 18th November at School Weir
The River Sid Catchment Group were there to catch the ‘fish lift’ – with a short video and report:
Thank you to everyone who came to support the annual Fish Lift today.
Experts who were supervising from @westcountryrivers and @envagency confirmed that the conditions were perfect, especially with the drop in temperature which was likely to encourage spawning behaviours. Despite our best efforts, no migratory fish were caught, to help up and over School Weir on this occasion.
But never fear! We are still busy behind the scenes with these experts, looking at how to adapt the weir to help migrating fish such as trout and salmon.
Thanks to @bbcdevon who came to help highlight the community coming together to look after our river and its wildlife. Keep your eyes peeled for segment soon on Spotlight!
