The Sid Valley is basically the catchment area for the River Sid – hence the name of the group dedicated to enhancing it, the River Sid Catchment Group.
However, the Sid is actually not the only waterway in this valley: there is also the Bickwell stream [or Woolbrook] which flows through Glen Goyle [See also: What’s in a name? What to call the stream running through the Glen Goyle? – Friends of Glen Goyle]
The last section of the Bickwell stream flows down under Glen Road , then under the Esplanade – and enters the sea opposite, finding its way through a lovely little and very green ‘beach garden’ and the last pebbles, as seen on Google Maps:
Yesterday, volunteers from the Sid Valley Biodiversity Group were down there doing a bit of gardening, aka spring cleaning. As Ed Dolphin says: Good to see so many volunteers helping to keep the unwanted plants such as three-cornered leek under control on the beach garden.
And as part of his report, he’s produced some fine photos of the afternoon’s work:
Good to see so many volunteers helping to keep the unwanted plants such as three-cornered leek under control on the beach garden. Plenty of signs that the beach specialists are well established. Thank you to EDDC for supplying the bags and taking away the rubbish to be composted.
