Just over border into Dorset, there’s a very active set-up concerned with the quality of their waters.
The River Lim Action group is part of the transition town group Turn Lyme Green – and as such has been doing very much the sort of work being carried out by the River Sid Monitoring Group specifically and the River Sid Catchment Group more generally, both of which are part of the Sid Valley Biodiversity Group.
And the RLA have been up to all sorts of late.
Here’s a just-published overview of their monitoring and what it tells us:
The River Lim Action group has been monitoring the River Lim’s health for two full years. Now that the monitoring has evolved to include bacteria and invertebrates this report is a review of our findings. It brings together the findings of our own monitoring, the statutory monitoring carried out during the bathing season by the Environment Agency of the two bathing beaches (Church Cliff and Front Beach) and other monitoring, where information has been provided, carried out by the Environment Agency (EA) in the river and South West Water (SWW). It has suggested solutions and conclusions for all the key stakeholders.
They’ve also been looking at the Riverfly 8, key invertebrates which indicate the ecological health of the river. And recently, they have commissioned a Wild Trout Trust Report – again, very much what has been happening in the Sid Valley too.
