It’s now a good year and a half since the new River Sid Catchment Group was established.
They have achieved a lot since, including holding the River Sid Catchment Plan Public Consultation a year ago and getting the River Sid Catchment Plan endorsed by the Town Council and taken forward by the West Country Rivers Trust at the beginning of this year.
RSCG steering group member Peter Brookes put together an excellent report last month on the the River Sid Catchment Group’s progress – where he concludes: If you want to participate in any of the RSCG activities please contact us on: ourriversid@gmail.com
And being able to get involved in the work of the Group is getting easier. For, on top of the lively River Sid Catchment Group | Facebook pages, the Group has just launched its River Sid Catchment Group website!

There are all sorts of useful sections, including how to get involved in Volunteering Opportunities with the River Sid Catchment Group, such as:
- You can take part in monthly water quality monitoring of the river and its tributaries.
- Join in with monthly riverfly monitoring of small river invertebrates, for example mayfly and freshwater shrimp. Your results from both of these will be fed into the Westcountry Rivers Trust’s database.
- Tight on time? River Watcher is a simple toolkit to encourage engagement with the river in a location of your choice and in a manner that interests you most.
Have fun! Such a positive project – and an excellent website too!
